Human Resources Generalist

Location: Colton, California

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000 annually


Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist serves as the organization's sole HR professional, managing all human resources functions. This role blends strategic oversight with hands-on execution across all HR disciplines, including recruitment, employee relations, compliance, performance management, payroll coordination, and employee retention.

As a key member of the management team, the HR Generalist works closely with program leadership to support staffing needs, onboarding, and employee development, while ensuring compliance with employment laws and fostering a positive, mission-driven workplace culture.

Given the nature of services provided, candidates with experience in the nonprofit and/or social services sector and a demonstrated commitment to serving others are strongly preferred.


Key Responsibilities

Human Resources Operations

  • Lead all day-to-day HR operations and serve as the primary point of contact for all HR-related matters
  • Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and best practices

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure organizational compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and documentation
  • Update and manage the employee handbook

Recruitment & Workforce Planning

  • Manage full-cycle recruitment, including job postings, candidate screening, interviewing, and hiring
  • Collaborate with leadership on workforce planning and staffing strategies
  • Oversee onboarding processes to ensure a smooth employee experience

Employee Relations & Performance Management

  • Administer employee relations matters, including conflict resolution and disciplinary processes
  • Support and guide performance management processes, including evaluations and improvement plans
  • Promote a respectful, inclusive, and mission-aligned workplace culture

Benefits & Leave Administration

  • Oversee employee benefits programs and enrollment processes
  • Administer leave of absence programs, including FMLA/CFRA, ADA accommodations, and workers' compensation

Payroll & Timekeeping Coordination

  • Coordinate payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Review timekeeping records and maintain proper documentation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a standalone or generalist role
  • Knowledge of California employment laws and HR best practices
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
  • Experience in nonprofit and/or social services environment strongly preferred
